Overview

This comprehensive National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certified course bundle will train you for one of today's fastest-growing medical careers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job market for medical assistants will grow 16% through 2031, which is much faster than the average job.

In the online medical assistant training course, you will learn how medical law, ethics, and HIPAA rules factor into a clinical medical assistant's work. It will prepare you for roles working alongside medical providers performing clinical and administrative duties. You will be trained to use scheduling systems, facilitate patient check-in and check-out, assess medical records, administer injections, measure vital signs, maintain equipment and supplies, and more.

The medical terminology course introduces key concepts of medical language and human anatomy, emphasizing the interconnectedness of body systems in health and disease. The curriculum covers topics such as the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, and immune systems, along with mental health and special senses, with exams at the midterm and final stages. Students with prior knowledge can optionally test out by achieving a minimum score of 80%, replacing course content if desired. It is important to understand that this course feature only applies to the online Medical Terminology course, the standalone course, or advanced career training course bundles that include Medical Terminology.

The second part of the bundle will train you in electronic health record (EHR) systems and prepare you for EHR certification. In this EHR training, you will learn how staff members and patients interact with EHR systems, what benefits these systems provide, and the steps to implementing an electronic health record system.

The course also includes the opportunity to become CPR certified and participate in an unpaid clinical experience. Upon completion, you will be prepared to sit for the Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) and Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification exams offered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA) upon eligibility. This course includes vouchers which cover the fee for the exams. However, please research your state's requirements by visiting your state's Medical Board site before enrolling to ensure this CCMA course is the right fit for you.

Please note: Students intending to work in Washington state may be required to provide or request an official transcript from the school they are enrolled with to qualify for employment as a Medical Assistant – Certified. This Certified Clinical Medical Assistant course does not meet state requirements for students intending to work in South Carolina, effective July 15th, 2026. Certification exams offered by NHA are only available online to candidates located in the US.

The course also includes an opportunity to participate in a clinical experience.

Tammy Stanson, RMA(AMT), CMA(AAMA), is a highly experienced and dedicated medical professional possessing over two decades of strong knowledge in medical assistant education, instruction, and practice. With her vast experience in clinical, administrative, and educational settings, Tammy began in 1996 as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and has spent her career in family medicine and urgent care.

Throughout her career, Tammy has not only worked as a CMA but also as a medical assisting instructor, demonstrating her commitment to creating a supportive and team-driven environment for students while enabling them to achieve their educational goals.

Tammy is passionate about excellent patient care and is committed to ensuring the next generations of medical assistants are prepared for the ever-changing healthcare industry. What is a medical assistant?

According to the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), medical assistants, otherwise known as clinical medical assistants, typically work alongside physicians in outpatient or ambulatory care facilities, such as medical offices and clinics. As a clinical medical assistant, you will interact directly with patients daily. You will likely be the first person a patient encounters after passing reception and the last person they see before exiting the facility. It will be your job to put them at ease, assure them they will be properly cared for, and leave them with a good impression. To be successful in this job, you will need to learn Electronic Health Record (EHR) software.

What do medical assistants do?

You will be responsible for taking the medical histories and recording patients' vital signs. Exact duties will vary by location, healthcare specialty, and practice size, but you will also likely complete clerical and administrative tasks within physician's offices, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. You will also need to understand how and what information can be shared and adhere to confidentiality laws, like HIPAA, in patient treatment.
